The island of Vir is located in the northwest of Zadar County.
It is the 20th largest among Croatian islands, and the eighth largest in the Zadar archipelago. It continues on the Privlaka peninsula, from which it is separated by the 3m deep and 300 metres wide Privlaka gaz. It has been connected to the mainland by a bridge since 1976, which makes Vir an integral part of the mainland.

Vir is 23km away from Zadar or only 20 minutes away by car from the city centre of Zadar.

According to the data of the tourist board, the island of Vir is among the most successful tourist destinations according to the number of overnight stays in Croatia. Its beautiful bays, beaches and crystal clear sea and numerous interesting events have certainly contributed to this, placing Vir among the crème de la crème of tourist "TOP" destinations.
