The island of Vir is located in the northwest of Zadar County.It is the 20th largest among Croatian islands, and the eighth largest in the Zadar archipelago. It continues on the Privlaka peninsula, from which it is separated by the 3m deep and 300 metres wide Privlaka gaz. It has been connected to the mainland by a bridge since 1976, which makes Vir an integral part of the mainland.
